Welcome to Vanishing Lights—my synthwave-driven passion project where nostalgia meets the future. I’m Rob Shaps, a songwriter, producer, singer, and musician crafting sonic landscapes that blur the lines between past and present.

My goal has always been to transport you to an ‘80s that never was—and an 80s of the future—a neon-lit dreamscape where analog synths hum with emotion and the future feels like a VHS tape on rewind. I’m always chasing that timeless sound, something that resists the erosion of time’s touch.

Music has always been my obsession. Back in 2004, I took first prize in the Billboard Songwriting Awards, a milestone that fueled my relentless pursuit of melody and atmosphere. Fast forward, and my project Vanishing Lights has landed on the legendary New RetroWave YouTube channel with the release of my debut music video, “The Great Costume Party”—a track that dives deep into eerie nostalgia and cinematic synthwave energy.

Every song of mine is created the same way: me, my old Casio keyboard, a Yamaha RM1X sequencer, and a pulse that feels like a message from the past. Sketching out ideas like intercepted signals from a distant galaxy, I bring them into Logic Pro, decoding and shaping them into synthwave soundscapes—transmissions from a world both alien and strangely familiar.
